Former British trained Libran won NSW Stayer Of The Year | Racing And Sports

Thursday in Australia saw the NSW Awards take place and it was a big night for the Chris Waller team as his stable scooped six awards headed by Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) who was named the NSW Horse of the Year. The filly, who goes for her 10th victory in a row in Saturday's G2 Warwick S. at Randwick was also voted Champion Miler. There were also accolades for the Waller trained Press Statement (Aus) (Hinchinbrook {Aus}), voted Champion 3-Year-Old, Preferment (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), Champion Middle Distance Performer and Highclere Racing's Libran (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}), Champion Stayer. It wasn't just the Waller equines that starred on the night, his stable employee Ali Iftikhar earned the Sydney Strapper of the Year award. G1 Golden Slipper winner and 'TDN Rising Star' Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) was the Two-Year-Old of the year, while five-time Group 1 winner Chautauqua (Aus) (Encosta De Lago {Aus}) scooped Best Sprinter award and Victorian mare Azkadellia (NZ) (Shinko King {Ire}) was deemed Queen of the Autumn.
