Another Graded Winner for Harlan's Holiday

Lucky Lindy | Four Footed Fotos

Lucky Lindy gave his late sire a second graded stakes win on the afternoon and owner George Strawbridge a second graded-stakes winner by the sire in the last three days with an off-the-pace tally in a spill-marred renewal of the Hawthorne Derby just outside the city limits of Chicago. The homebred, runner-up with traffic trouble in the July 26 Toronto Cup on the Woodbine turf course, was third to Sunday's GI Canadian International hopeful Danish Dynaformer (Dynaformer) in the Aug. 16 Breeders' S. and was most recently the easy winner of the GIII Ontario Derby over the Polytrack in Toronto Sept. 20.

Having taken tote action from start to finish–including one hit that saw his odds drop from around 4-1 to 9-5 in one click–the bay settled worse than midfield as they went a strong pace on the engine and made some progress inside towards the second turn. Steered to the outside by Robby Albarado, Lucky Lindy caught the eye approaching the stretch, powered to the front with a furlong to run and was clear late, as GIII Jefferson Cup hero Saham closed belatedly to nip Nun the Less. Flaxman Stable's Nucifera (More Than Ready) appeared to clip heels and fell on the far turn. Nucifera reportedly exited the incident relatively unscathed, while his rider Alex Cintron was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Strawbridge homebred Holiday Star (Harlan's Holiday) took the GIII Sycamore S. at Keeneland Wednesday. Lucky Lindy's dam is a half to Canadian champion 3-year-old and dual Classic winner Archers Bay (Silver Deputy).
