A Look Ahead With Sonia Rogers

Sonia Rogers of Airlie Stud | Airlie Stud

The TDN has solicited the opinions of some prominent figures on the European bloodstock scene to answer three questions about the upcoming Flat season. Today's installment features the thoughts of Sonia Rogers of Airlie Stud.

1) Horse you are most looking forward to seeing this season?

Jack Hobbs (Halling), because I think he will make a good 4-year-old. He had a long season last year, winning the Irish Derby and being second to Golden Horn in the English Derby. He was a top 3-year-old and is trained by a master. Also his sire Halling, who died recently, was very under rated.

2) A stallion who could feature prominently (doesn't have to be first season)?

Zoffany, he has two 2-year-olds in the top twenty, a colt and a filly – Foundation and Illuminate.

3) Positive change you would like to see for the industry in 2016?

I would like to see the number of mares bred to each stallion each year be limited to 140. This could only be beneficial to the breeder and also, long term, to the stallion.
