'Caps' Comes Back in Toboggan

Last year's GI Carter H. winner Dads Caps (Discreet Cat) is looking to kick off his 6-year-old season in style in Aqueduct's GIII Toboggan S. Monday afternoon. The Vincent Scuderi homebred was third in the GII True North S. at Belmont June 5 behind the ill-fated Rock Fall (Speightstown). On the bench since, the bay is given the 8-5 nod on the morning line off a solid worktab.

“I don't see any negatives with him; he's doing very well,” trainer Rudy Rodriguez said. “Everything looks like he's moving up. He's been working very good since we got him back from vacation, so it looks like he's ready to run. We've definitely got the Carter [Apr. 9] in mind. Usually when they're away from the races that long, they look like they need a race. Hopefully, this is something to move forward from. He looks like he runs well fresh, so hopefully we can get a decent race and maybe just freshen him up and take it from there. But if there's another race coming up, maybe we can try him again. We're still a long way from home.”

Grant Gaston-trained Green Gratto (Here's Zealous) will likely be at the head of affairs early. The front-running dark bay, who was second behind Dads Caps in the Carter, most recently strung together victories in the GIII Fall Hightweight H. Nov. 26 and the Gravesend S. a month later.
