Lira extended her record to a perfect three-for-three with a gutsy late run in the Ginger Brew S. A first-out winner on the sod at Gulfstream Park West Oct. 11, the chestnut followed suit with a win in that venue's Wait a While S. Nov. 28 and was hammered down to heavy favoritism to repeat that effort here. The newly-minted sophomore saved ground in fourth off the dueling leaders through opening splits of :24.40 and :48.50, but was blocked in behind a wall of horses turning for home. Juddmonte colorbearer Module and impressive Chad Brown trainee Pricedtoperfection both made big wide runs to take control in the stretch, but Lira wove between horses late and powered through just in time to deny those rivals for a narrow victory. Pricedtoperfection got the place earnings in a close photo with Module. Lira's dam produced a colt by the late Scat Daddy in 2014 and a full-brother to the winner in 2015.
