Asmussen Runners on Track

Trainer Steve Asmussen's Breeders' Cup quartet each worked four furlongs at Keeneland Monday and exercise rider Carlos Rosas was aboard for all four of the works.

Winchell Thoroughbreds' champion Untapable (Tapit) covered the distance in :50.20 as she prepares to defend her title in Friday's GI Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff. Fellow Winchell homebred Tapiture (Tapit), looking to improve on his runner-up effort in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, went in :49.20.

Jerry Durant's Holy Boss (Street Boss), most recently fourth over a sloppy track in the GIII Phoenix S., went in :49.60 in preparation for the GI Twinspires Breeders' Cup Sprint and LNJ Foxwoods' GI Frizette S. winner Nickname (Medaglia d'Oro) worked in :49.60 ahead of the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.

After the works, Asmussen recapped the morning.

“Untapable is our favorite, a true champion and we are just blessed to be around her,” Asmussen said. “Tapiture has touted himself very strongly since [winning] the [Sept. 26 GIII] Ack Ack [H.]. I think it'll take the race of his life, but I think he's sitting on the race of his life. I think what he'll do is dependent upon where you're drawn and who's where. I think all those decisions can only be made once the draw is out.”

Asmussen continued, “The thing I feel very strongly about is that Holy Boss got here doing something. Who you're in with shouldn't change how you go from point A to point B. He's a great, big-bodied horse and I don't think that he would appreciate off-going. Nickname is an extremely talented filly that trains extremely impressively. The Juvenile Fillies has quite obviously some great 2-year-old fillies in there, but I feel really good about our chances.”
