Timonium Meet Kicks off Aug. 26

Thoroughbred racing at the Timonium meet runs Aug. 26 through Sept. 6 during the Maryland State Fair. The meet will conduct the $125,000 Timonium Distaff S. Aug. 27. A $20,000 trainers' awards will be offered this year, sponsored by the Maryland State Fair. Grooms awards will also be given to the best turned out in each race. Annual College Day at the Fair will take place Aug. 27. Eleven $1,000 college scholarships are awarded to preregistered full time college students in attendance.

TIMONIUM, MD - With a $3.55-million son of Bernardini providing the auction's biggest fireworks, the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale concluded another record-setting renewal in Timonium Tuesday. At the conclusion of business, 391 horses had sold for a gross of $37,297,700--bettering the sale's previous high mark of $33,692,000 set just last year. The under-tack show ahead of next week's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale gets underway Tuesday morning at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. MHBA Announces New Incentives, Awards for Steeplechase Horses

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA) Board of Directors recently voted unanimously to begin an award program for Breeder, Owner and Stallion bonuses for registered Maryland-breds at sanctioned steeplechase race meets in Maryland. Beginning in 2022, registered Maryland-bred horses that run first, second or third will receive 30% on purses earned at National Steeplechase Association-sanctioned meets in Maryland. Fasig-Tipton has catalogued 232 entries for the main catalogue of the Midlantic December Mixed Sale, to be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. Trainer Gary Contessa selected a Street Sense filly as grand champion of the 87th annual Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA)'s Yearling Show.
