Malathaat Likely to Train Up To Breeders' Cup

Shadwell Stable's Malathaat (Curlin), winner of Saturday's GI Alabama S., will likely train up to the Nov. 6 GI Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff, trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed Sunday morning. "Right now, we're focused on the Distaff, so we'll zero in on that and take things from there. That's the most likely scenario," Pletcher said. "Nothing's etched in stone, but that's sort of the plan that we discussed with Rick Nichols [of Shadwell] a while ago." Malathaat won the GI Ashland S. and GI Kentucky Oaks before suffering her first career...

Malathaat Pointing for CCA Oaks

Undefeated 'TDN Rising Star' Malathaat (Curlin) will make her next start in Saratoga's GI CCA Oaks July 24 instead of the June 5 GI Belmont S., which was initially under consideration following her Apr. 30 GI Kentucky Oaks victory. I would have always liked for him to train for us, but since Todd and Kiaran were such good friends, it was a line that I didn't want to...

Late Action As Book 2 Concludes

By Brian DiDonato & Jessica Martini LEXINGTON, KY--While Thursday's second and final Book 2 session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale included some lulls without big-money sellers, it finished strong, with the day's top two lots coming in the final 20 or so hips. A colt by the in-demand Into Mischief (hip 1203) was the lone Book 2 offering to reach the seven-figure threshold, selling for an even $1-million to Peter Leidel, who did his bidding on the phone. The son of Grade II winner Teen Pauline (Tapit) was consigned...

Shadwell To Move McLaughlin Horses to Pletcher

The Shadwell Stable horses currently in training with Kiaran McLaughlin will be moved to Todd Pletcher, Shadwell Vice President and General Manager Rick Nichols announced Thursday. Nichol's statement read as follows: "On behalf of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan and all of us at Shadwell, we would like to thank Kiaran McLaughlin and his staff for all of the...
