'Luck And Lack Of Management!' – Manhattan Jungle's Overjoyed Breeder

She had achieved black-type success in France as a two-year-old last season and on Sunday Manhattan Jungle (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {GB}) took her tally of listed wins to two when scoring comfortably at Santa Anita under Frankie Dettori but you won't find her breeder Patrick Headon getting carried away with himself back in Ireland.  The County Offaly operator joked on Monday, "It's vindication for a lot of luck and lack of management!" Of course, Headon was doing his best to deflect praise for his tried and trusted method of producing...

The Heirs of Kodiac

Kodiac (GB) (Danehill) has long been a sought-after source of precocity, and as he has risen toward the upper echelon of proven stallions, the hunt is now on for his heir. Or heirs, as the case may be, because just as Kodiac's winners are legion, his sons' foals are starting to display that same vaunted quick-maturing zest for racing: a quartet of group-winning sons of Kodiac retired to stud in 2017-Kodi Bear (Ire), Adaay (Ire), Coulsty (Ire) and Prince of Lir (Ire)--and all have sired group winners with only two...

Rathasker's Rising Tide

When standing a stallion there appears to be a defined path that most are destined to follow. Busy in year one, numbers drop in year two and three, and then your fate is sealed on whether their first crop can run or not. In the case of Bungle Inthejungle (Ire) and Coulsty (Ire), both have proven that their stock can run and can compete at the top level, with Winter Power (Ire) and Shantisara (Ire) having won Group 1 races for both sires, respectively. This gives Maurice and Madeline Burns...

The Weekly Wrap: It's Good To Be Back

There are banners along the High Street of my home town of Newmarket saying 'Welcome back to racing'. Though we've been fortunate in England to have been able to allow crowds gradually to return to racecourses earlier than some other countries, it has only really been in the last few weeks that it has felt like the proper pre-pandemic experience. And where better to have the people back in force than at York, widely regarded by many to be the best racecourse in the country? Any amount of time spent...

Bungle Inthejungle's Winter Power Overwhelms Nunthorpe Rivals

Friday's G1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe S. was always going to be about raw speed and the 3-year-old filly Winter Power (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {GB}) qualified more than most in that regard having displayed it in abundance in the May 13 Listed Westow S. and July 10 Listed City Walls S. over this flat York five. In front of all bar the furiously-fast Golden Pal (Uncle Mo) until the two-furlong pole, King Power's 9-1 shot left that US raider for dead there and hit the line under Silvestre de Sousa...

As breeding sheds prepare to swing open their doors in the coming weeks, we bring you the final installment of our 2021 Value Sires series. Irish Stallion Trail Goes Virtual

In a normal year Irish stallion farms would be opening their doors this week to thousands of people traversing the Irish countryside enjoying the ITM Irish Stallion Trail. Of course present circumstances have put a stop to that happening this year but like so many other events that have been adversely affected by Covid-19 the action has moved online. It may not be quite the same as the real thing but at least the efforts of the ITM team in capturing some excellent footage of new and established stallions and...
