'Stormy' Forecast at Kentucky Downs

After annexing her second career win in the GI Fourstardave H. at Saratoga this summer, Got Stormy (Get Stormy) will take on males once again in Saturday's 'Win and You're In' GIII Fanduel Turf Sprint S. going six furlongs at Kentucky Downs. A winner of the GIII Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint S. at an additional half of a furlong here last term, Got Stormy narrowly captured the GIII Honey Fox S. at Gulfstream Feb. 27 before rolling a pair of fives in the GII Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile S....

Trainer Orseno Responds to Bleeding Incident

When MGSW Imprimis (Broken Vow) finished second by a nose to Bound for Nowhere (The Factor) in Saturday's GII Shakertown S. at Keeneland, he returned bleeding from both nostrils. The horse had broken through the gate prior to the start and banged his head, but was examined on the scene by the state veterinarians and pronounced fit to run. Trainer Joe Orseno, who said he "thought [his] horse bled horribly," issued a statement Thursday morning through the National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) in response to the incident. It...

Florida Trainers React to Lasix Ban in Stakes

In Imprimis (Broken Vow), Joe Orseno has the morning-line favorite in Friday's Janus S. at Gulfstream, the first race that will be held at the South Florida track under new rules that prohibit the use of Lasix in stakes races. Orseno isn't looking forward to what will become the new normal for horsemen across the country at most major tracks. "It's a big adjustment and I'm not fond of the new rules," he said. "I don't see how you can take a horse who has been running on Lasix his...

Imprimis Puts Orseno Back in the Spotlight

You have to have the right horses, manage them properly and get them to the big races when they are at their best. Those are the sentiments of Classic-winning trainer Joe Orseno, who will saddle Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint morning-line co-second choice Imprimis (Broken Vow). It's been some time, 20 years to be exact, but this isn't Orseno's first trip to the Breeders' Cup with a live runner. Far from it. Back-to-back wins at the 2000 Breeders' Cup-held then as just a one-day, blockbuster eight-race program-put an exclamation...

Breeders' Cup Berth On the Line in Runhappy Turf Sprint

A full field of 12 and three also-eligibles have been entered for Saturday's GIII Runhappy Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs, a 'Win and You're In' qualifier for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland Nov. 7. The six-furlong dash will offer up one of the afternoon's toughest handicapping challenges to boot. Totally Boss (Street Boss) pounced from just off the pace to scoop this valuable prize by 1 1/4 lengths last year, then lost all chance when steadied three furlongs from home in the Breeders' Cup Sprint and finished...
