Shalaa To Stand For €27,500

Shalaa | Racing Post

Dual Group 1-winning juvenile Shalaa (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) will stand for €27,500 in his first season at stud at Haras de Bouquetot next year, and is the most expensive on that farm's roster. Shalaa, the winner of the 2015 G1 Darley Prix Morny, G1 Juddmonte Middle Park S., G2 Arqana July S. and G2 Qatar Richmond S. in the Al Shaqab silks, made just two starts this year for trainer John Gosden after an injury enforced layoff, winning the G3 Bengough S. Oct. 1.

“We are delighted to have a champion 2-year-old with such credentials joining our current roster at Haras de Bouquetot,” said Benoit Jeffroy, stud manager at Haras de Bouquetot. “There has already been a huge international demand for Shalaa, enabling us to be selective on his first book of mares. We strongly recommend breeders to send their applications early to avoid any disappointment.”

Four-time Group 1 winner Olympic Glory (Ire) (Choisir {Aus}), whose first foals sell this year, will remain at €15,000. The Wow Signal (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) is also unchanged at €8,000, while Planteur (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and Style Vendome (Fr) (Anabaa), as well as Al Shaqab's Toronado (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who stands at the National Stud in Newmarket, have been reduced.

“We want to give our two promising stallions the best chances coming into their fourth season at stud,” said Jeffroy. “Al Shaqab has supported them both at stud, sending a number of their best mares to them, and in the sales ring, purchasing both the top prices for Planteur and Style Vendome. We have a number of very exciting racing prospects by each of these stallions and are now looking forward to seeing their 2-year-olds at work.”

Jake Warren added of Toronado, “The reports on Toronado's first foals have been extremely encouraging, proven by the many breeders that reused him this year. Of the 265 mares covered so far, over 130 are stakes performers or dams of stakes performers and we are anticipating another lovely book for 2017.”
