G1 Golden Slipper S. runner-up Yankee Rose (Aus) (All American {Aus}) was found to be lame on Wednesday morning and will be sold, with retirement likely, racing.com reported Wednesday. Originally among the early nominations for Saturday's G1 Makybe Diva S., the Australian champion juvenile filly's trainer David Vandyke withdrew her from consideration from the Flemington feature.
“I wasn't happy with her this morning and as such I didn't accept [in the Makybe Diva S.],” he told racing.com. “We've had trouble with her near-fore heel and this morning I found her lame in her off-fore heel. So if it's not one leg it's the other. The owners have had a meeting and they voted to sell her, so I'll just keep her in work until as such time as they find a buyer. I think that would be the wise move considering her value and her situation.”
A winner of the G1 Inglis Sires at Randwick last April, the daughter of Condesaar (Aus) (Xaar {GB}) added to her Group 1 haul with a victory in the G1 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion S. there on Oct. 8. From 10 starts, Yankee Rose won four times, with a second in the G1 Flight S. and a third in last year's G1 Cox Plate in the wake of Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) also on her resume for $1,627,487 in earnings to date.
Vandyke said, “It's disappointing that we've reached this point, but at the same time she's been a wonderful mare and it's been fantastic to trainer her up to this point. It's been a great journey and I feel so important to have trained her.”
