Protest Threat Forces Switch To Chantilly

Protestors on the track at Chantilly in January | Scoop Dyga

Saturday's scheduled meeting at Deauville has been transferred to Chantilly owing to concerns surrounding potential disruption by the 'gilets jaunes' protestors.

France Galop issued a notice on Thursday which read, “Due to a high risk of a blockade at Deauville racecourse by a group of 'gilets jaunes' that threatens the safety of the meeting on Saturday, March 2, the races will be moved to Chantilly.” On Jan. 12, protestors wearing yellow vests took to the streets of Chantilly—France's largest training centre—and, after finding their way onto the racecourse, caused a two-hour delay to that's day's meeting. Five of the nine scheduled races were run the following morning.

Friday's meeting at Deauville will go ahead as planned.
