On The Lookout

John Gosden saddles Verandah | Racing Post

After such a visually impressive debut success over seven furlongs at Kempton on debut on Aug. 9, 'TDN Rising Star' Verandah (GB) (Medicean {GB}) takes a leap into deep waters in Saturday's G3 Prestige S. at Goodwood. The fact that Cheveley Park Stud's full-sister to the accomplished Dimension (GB) and half to the 1000 Guineas runner-up Spacious (GB) (Nayef) is pitched in here by John Gosden speaks volumes and if she can handle this tricky terrain she should come into the reckoning. Interestingly, he brought another from that stud by Medicean in Nannina (GB) to win this in 2005 en route to G1 Fillies' Mile and G1 Coronation S. glory.

Another once-raced maiden winner of interest is Godolphin's Peace Trail (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}), who made all to win over this trip at Newmarket a fortnight ago. “You could not be any more pleased with the way she did it at Newmarket as she was very professional,” trainer Charlie Appleby said. “She has come out of it well and looks to have come forward again for that experience. She is going down to Goodwood as a filly that doesn't look out of place in the line-up. Being drawn 10 of 10 and over seven furlongs is not ideal, but I would rather be there than stuck on the rail. We will use similar tactics to last time, as she doesn't want taking back and being messed about with. She is a breeze-up filly, so she knows her job.” Another unexposed contender is Marc Keller's Quivery (Violence), who was able to defy a seven-pound penalty for her debut win at Doncaster on June 18 in a novice stakes at Newmarket on July 21, while the form fillies are the July 27 Listed Star S. third Billesdon Brook (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}) and July 29 Listed Prix Six Perfections scorer Izzy Bizu (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}).
