Observations: Apr. 22, 2017

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Today's Observations features a maiden including brothers to Al Kazeem and Dubawi.

4.15 Newbury, Mdn, £8,000, 3yo, 8fT

NAJASHEE (IRE) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) starts out for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Owen Burrows in this maiden which was won by Noble Mission (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) five years ago. The €700,000 ARQAUG half-brother to the top-level winners Ectot (GB) (Hurricane Run {Ire}) and Most Improved (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) meets another intriguing newcomer in The Queen's Call To Mind (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), a William Haggas-trained son of the talented G2 Cherry Hinton S. winner Memory (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and therefore a full-brother to the same connections's G3 Acomb S. scorer Recorder (GB).

5.20 Newbury, Mdn, £10,000, 3yo, 11f 5yT

KAZAWI (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) makes his debut at the track at which his distinguished full-brother Al Kazeem (GB) first came to the fore for his owner-breeder John Deer and trainer Roger Charlton. Like that four-times Group 1-winning sibling, he is likely to need some time to mature and he is up against some potentially smart rivals with experience including Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum's UAE King (GB) (Frankel (GB)">Frankel {GB}), a Roger Varian-trained half-brother to none other than Dubawi (Ire).

6.30 Nottingham, Mdn, £5,000, 3yo, 10f 50yT

CRYSTAL OCEAN (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) bids to build on her promising debut second at Newbury in September for owner-breeder Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and trainer Sir Michael Stoute. A half-brother to the G2 Pride S. and G2 Princess of Wales's S. winner Crystal Capella (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and GI Canadian International hero Hillstar (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), he encounters two regally-bred newcomers in Godolphin's Forever Song (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a Charlie Appleby-trained son of the G2 Park Hill S. scorer Echoes In Eternity (Ire) (Spinning World) and Lady Rothschild's Peterport (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}), a John Gosden-trained son of the runaway G1 Sun Chariot S. heroine Spinning Queen (GB) (Spinning World).
