Gingernuts to Skip Caulfield Cup

Te Akau Racing's MG1SW Gingernuts (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) will not contest the Oct. 21 G1 Caulfield Cup after missing an intended run in the G1 Livamol Classic at Hastings on Saturday. The Hastings card was abandoned after the fifth race due to unsafe ground conditions. Due to ship to Australia Wednesday, the 2017 G1 New Zealand Derby hero and G1 Rosehill Guineas victor will instead stay in New Zealand before shipping to Australia for a start in the G1 Emirates S. on Nov. 11. He won the G1 Windsor Park Plate last out on Sept. 23.

“You can't control the weather and it is just very very unfortunate what has happened with the track on the weekend,” said David Ellis of Te Akau Racing to Racing.com. “By missing a run on Saturday, it means he won't be ready for the Caulfield Cup or the [G1] Melbourne Cup [on Nov. 7]after that so we have had to shift to Plan B. We are going to wait and see what decision is taken with rescheduling the Livamol and if it fits in he will remain here to contest the race before heading over to Melbourne to run in the Emirates S. If for some reason they can't reschedule the Livamol or it isn't on a date that suits, he will go to Melbourne a little earlier and have a lead-up run to the Emirates over there.”
