Yoshida Sister Gets Black-Type Win

Sanctuaire (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), a three-quarter sister to two-time American Grade I winner and new WinStar Farm sire Yoshida (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}), stamped herself a 3-year-old filly to watch with a first black-type win in Sunday's G3 Shinzan Kinen against the colts at Kyoto. Sanctuaire, who is out of the GI Ballerina S. winner Hilda's Passion (Canadian Frontier), was a debut winner going a mile at Niigata on Aug. 11 and followed up with a second to Ria Amelia (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), who is herself out of a U.S. Grade I winner in Ria Antonia (Rockport Harbour), in the G3 Artemis S. on Oct. 26.

Away a step slowly from the rail draw, Sanctuaire was allowed to gradually work her way up the fence and sat third by the time the field hit the turn. Hitting top gear inside the final furlong, she wore down Prince Return (Jpn) (Strong Return {Jpn}), who had got first jump on her, in the dying strides to win by a neck.

Pedigree Notes
Sanctuaire is out of the aforementioned Hilda's Passion, who was bought by Katsumi Yoshida for $1.225-million at Keeneland November in 2007. Yoshida was her second foal and Sanctuaire her fifth, and they were split by the winners Weltherrschaft (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and Chef d' Oeuvre (Jpn) (Orfevre {Jpn}). Hilda's Passion has a 2-year-old filly by Duramente (Jpn).

There are also some European connections in the family, with Sanctuaire's fourth dam being a half-sister to G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp winner All At Sea.
