Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan (Wiseman's Ferry) covered five furlongs in 1:02.20 over a fast main track at Keeneland Sunday. It was the the Morton Fink homebred's third work back since suffering a non-displaced fracture to his right front fetlock after his win in the GI Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland last October.
“There weren't many horses over [the track], and it was cool and the track was perfect,” conditioner Charlie LoPresti said. “He got the last quarter in :23 and change, and he came back good, really good.”
LoPresti is very happy with how the six-time Eclipse winner is training.
“I'm trying not to put him on a real intense work schedule because it's a while before he runs,” LoPresti said.
Lopresti added that Wise Dan could make his 2015 debut in the GII Bernard Baruch H. at Saratoga Sept. 7 or the GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile Sept. 13. The chestnut would then return to his home track for the Shadwell Turf Mile Oct. 3 and GI Breeders' Cup Mile Oct. 31.
