Giles Thompson, who has been the chief financial officer of Racing Victoria since September 2015, has been appointed acting chief executive of that organisation, according to Racing.com. Bernard Saundry, who has filled the role of CEO for 14 years, will step down Dec. 31.
“Racing is a great sport and Victoria is one of the best places in the world to be involved in it,” Thompson told Racing.com. “I'm excited by the opportunity to lead a great team and capitalise on the momentum gained during a highly successful Spring Racing Carnival.”
Acting RV Chairman Mike Hirst added, “Giles has a strong record as a leader and an intimate knowledge of the business, our strategic objectives and the key projects being undertaken. We have a great team of passionate and hard-working staff at Racing Victoria and they will be ably led by Giles and a very experienced and capable executive team.”
