Teofilo Filly Tops Goffs Opener

Lot 256, session-topping Teofilo filly | Peter Mooney

A Teofilo (Ire) filly from Moorpark Stud (lot 256) fetched the top price of €62,000 from Rabbah Bloodstock on the first of two days of the Goffs Open Yearling Sale in Kildare on Wednesday. The filly is the third foal out of the unraced Mon Bijou (Ire) (Green Desert), a half-sister to the GI E.P. Taylor S. winner Folk Opera (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}). G1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Proportional (GB) appears under the third dam.

It was a sizable gap down to the next-highest price of €32,000, which was commanded by both a daughter of Shamardal (lot 262) and a son of Rip Van Winkle (Ire) (lot 311). BBA Ireland signed for the Shamardal filly, who is out of a half-sister to My Renee (Kris S), the dam of dual Group 2 winner Banimpire (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), while Razza Latina is the new owner of the Rip Van Winkle colt, a half-brother to the stakes-placed Mappa Mundi (Henrythenavigator).

At the close of trade, 176 yearlings were sold from 245 offered. The buyback rate was 28.2%, the average €7,324 and the median €5,000. This sale was only one session last year, so comparative statistics will be provided after day two.
