Telescope Retired From Racing

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing has announced the retirement of Telescope (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) one of their most successful horses in recent years. The Sir Michael Stoute trained 5-year-old aggravated an injury he sustained earlier in the summer and following veterinary advice connections decided to call time on a racing career that yielded two Group 2 wins and over £750,000 in prize-money. Announcing the news Highclere's Harry Herbert said, “After speaking to the vets the decision has been made to retire Telescope. He has proved such a consistent horse for us and has given all his owners at Highclere an enormous amount of fun and success. I would like to thank Sir Michael and his team who have looked after him so well throughout his career. Telescope has become known as one of the best looking horses in training and that combined with his wonderful pedigree and race record will stand him in good stead as he embarks on his new stallion career.” Bred by David Nagle's Barronstown Stud in Ireland, Telescope first delivered on his lofty reputation when winning the G2 Great Voltigeur S. at York in 2013. He improved further as a 4-year-old and was most impressive when beating stable-mate Hillstar (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) by seven lengths in the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot last year. Telescope also ran honorable races in defeat at the highest level, including a second behind Taghrooda (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. and a close fourth to Main Sequence (Aldebaran) in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf.
