Tatts Launches Book 1 Bonus

Officials at Tattersalls have announced the launch of a new £25,000 Bonus Scheme which will reward the owners of Tattersalls October Book 1-purchased yearlings if those horses win Class 2, 3 or 4 maidens in England or an 'open' maiden in Ireland. The cost to enter the so-called 'Book 1 Bonus Scheme' is a one-time payment of £1,000 and the number of qualifying races in Britain and Ireland are estimated at 300. The 'Book 1 Bonus' will run alongside the 'Plus 10′ Scheme, which began this season.

“We are very excited to be launching the £25,000 Tattersalls October 'Book 1 Bonus,' commented Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony. “The new scheme represents a very significant financial commitment by Tattersalls and the prospect for owners of earning prize money in excess of £30,000 for winning any of more than 300 British and Irish 2-year-old maiden races is hugely enticing.

Mahony continued, “The £25,000 Tattersalls October 'Book 1 Bonus' will complement the popular Plus 10 scheme which was launched last year and October Book 1 2-year-olds which win races qualified for both schemes will be rewarded with prize money the envy of all other countries in Europe and most of the rest of the world. Prize money is the lifeblood of the sport and we are proud to be introducing a Scheme which looks set to capture the imagination of owners, trainers and consignors.”

The new undertaking has garnered the immediate support from top horsepeople in England.

“I have been lucky enough to have campaigned a number of horses which have earned huge amounts of prize money on the world stage, but prize money here at maiden level has always been an issue and the prospect of an owner covering a year's training fees by winning a 2-year-old maiden is a very powerful incentive,” commented trainer Ed Dunlop.

Added Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff, “The new £25,000 Tattersalls October 'Book 1 Bonus' is the sort of incentive which will surely catch the imagination of owners and, crucially, encourage them to have horses in training in the UK and Ireland rather than elsewhere. Racing here in the UK and Ireland is without doubt the best in the world and horses winning 'Book 1 Bonuses' are to be handsomely rewarded.”
