Popular track announcer Trevor Denman, who came to Del Mar in 1984 and has been the track's voice ever since, has been named the 19th recipient of the Laffit Pincay, Jr. Award. The native of South Africa will be honored at the shore track Saturday, Aug. 19. Larry Collmus, who stepped up to pinch hit for Del Mar's longtime caller Trevor Denman during the height of the COVID 19 crisis in 2020, will take over for the recently injured Denman for the majority of the track's upcoming fall race meet starting Nov. 3. Trevor Denman will return to the announcer's booth at Del Mar after missing 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "We are very keen to get back to Del Mar," Denman said.
