Streaking Knightsbridge Romps in Gulfstream Park Mile

Godolphin homebred and 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Knightsbridge (h, 5, Nyquist–Tyburn Brook, by Bernardini) made his 1-5 odds look like a bargain versus four overmatched rivals in Saturday's GIII Gulfstream Park Mile S.

He chased in second beneath Junior Alvarado, took over with ease on the far turn and opened daylight in the stretch to win in style by 11 1/4 lengths. Steal Sunshine (Constitution) was second. Flying Liam (Liam's Map) was third.

“I think he's the best miler in the country right now,” Alvarado said. “It was almost like a paid workout. He was just much the best. Mr. (Bill) Mott–he's a Hall of Famer for a reason–if he decides to stretch him out, his pedigree says he probably could be able to make the two turns. But, as of right now, I'm very happy for him being the best miler in the country.”

Knightsbridge entered riding a three-race winning streak for Hall of Famer Bill Mott, headed by victories in Gulfstream's GIII Mr. Prospector S. going seven furlongs Dec. 27 and GIII Fred W. Hooper S. going a mile last time Jan. 24. He earned Beyer Speed Figures of 104 and 105 in those two victories.

“He ran really well today,” Mott said. “He's run three times down here and he's run well every time. It looks like he's done it with authority the last couple times. He looks good. We're pleased to get the wins under his belt in the graded stakes and hopefully there's more to come.”

Mott said that Knightsbridge could target the seven-furlong GI Churchill Downs S. May 3. He will not be stretched out around two turns in the immediate future, per Mott.

“Right now, we're not going to think about that,” Mott said. “There's a couple of very important races coming up at one turn and we're probably going to give that a try right now, potentially at Churchill Downs.”

He added, “Naturally, I'd love to have a horse to run in the (GI) Met Mile (at Saratoga June 6) if it turns out that way. He'd be a possibility.”

Pedigree Notes:

Knightsbridge, one of 23 graded winners for Nyquist, is a half-brother to young Darley stallion Speaker's Corner (Street Sense), winner of the 2022 GI Carter H. as well as that term's GII WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile S.

Knightsbridge's second dam is GI Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Round Pond (Awesome Again), who brought $5.75 million from Sheikh Mohammed's global operation at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton November sale.

Knightsbridge's unraced dam is a half-sister to GI Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Highland Falls (Curlin) and G1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 winner Long River (A.P. Indy). The Nyquist x Bernardini cross is also responsible for GISWs Gretzky the Great, Immersive and Nysos.

Tyburn Brook had a colt by Curlin in 2025 and was bred back to Nyquist.
