Star Material

Volfango | Scoop Dyga

Maisons-Laffitte plays host to some possible autumn makers and shakers on Saturday, with the G3 Prix du Prince d'Orange boasting two 'TDN Rising Stars who have stalled in their ascent but who may yet have more to offer in Volfango (Ire) (Dutch Art {GB}) and Plumatic (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). The former took an unbeaten record into the G2 Prix Eugene Adam over this course and distance on July 16 and was a staying-on fourth behind the subsequently G2 Prix Niel-placed Finche (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and Avilius (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) as Afandem (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) finished in between them in second. Third last time behind another who re-opposes here in Bay of Poets (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) in the Listed Prix Pelleas over nine furlongs at Clairefontaine on Aug. 18, the half-brother to Vadamos (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}) was a touch unlucky on the latter occasion and given that his sibling did not fully mature until five has time on his side. The Wertheimers' Plumatic, a son of the G1SW Plumania (GB) (Anabaa), looked raw when second in the G3 Prix de Guiche over nine furlongs at Chantilly on May 7 but was still tried in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club by Andre Fabre. Last of 12 in that June 4 10 1/2-furlong Classic, in which Recoletos (Fr) (Whipper) was third, the homebred has since been rested by his master trainer and it is interesting that he pitches him into such a competitive affair on his first run back.
