+TESORA (f, 2, Scat Daddy–Romance Is Roman, by In Excess {Ire}) was given a well-timed ride by Emisael Jaramillo and careered down the center of the Gulfstream turf course to break her maiden first time out over this minimum five-furlong trip. Allowed to drop out to the tail of the field early on, Tesoro was quietly ridden and had tacked on to the back of the pack leaving the midway point of the turn. Held together as long as possible so as to not sacrifice ground loss on the bend, the $130,000 Keeneland September graduate was taken to the wide outside with all of it to do and covered her final eighth of a mile in a wicked :11.17 to score by two lengths. The win was the eighth of the meet from just 13 runners for trainer Jonathan Thomas. Tesora is the first foal from her dam, a full-sister to 2006 GI Hollywood Starlet S. winner Romance Is Diane and to Romanceishope, victorious in the 2001 GII Del Mar Derby. Romance Is Roman failed to produce foals in 2016 and 2017 and was most recently covered by Dialed In. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $25,800.
