Rubick Retires to Coolmore

Rubick (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}–Sliding Cube {Aus}, by Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}), a group-stakes winner at two and at three when he defeated older rivals in the G2 Schillaci S. last October, has been retired from the races and will enter stud for the 2015 breeding season at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley. He will stand for an introductory fee of A$17,600 GST added.

Bred by Muzaffar Yaseen's Teeley Assets, Rubick fetched A$460,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from Stallion Racing's David Raphael and earned TDN Rising Star status with a smashing debut success at Randwick before adding the colts and geldings' division of the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude S. in just his second career outing. A creditable fourth in the G1 Blue Diamond S. two weeks later, he was spelled and resumed with a one-length success in the Schillaci S. Third to Miracles of Life (Aus) (Not a Single Doubt {Aus}) in the G2 Challenge S. in March during his most recent preparation, Rubick retires with three wins from his eight career appearances and earnings of A$359,500.

“His natural speed and precocity are attributes that are very much in demand in the commercial market place,” said Coolmore Australia General Manager Michael Kirwan. “We've been overrun with enquiries for him for some time and people are going to be very impressed when they see him.”

Added trainer Gerald Ryan, “Rubick had incredible natural ability. I've never had a horse that could run the times that he did. He's by far and away the fastest 2-year-old I've ever trained and has always been a standout physically.”

Rubick will look to fill the considerable shoes of his sire at Coolmore and possesses an outstanding pedigree to do so. His dam, Sliding Cube, is a Group 3-winning half-sister to top sire Redoute's Choice (Aus) (Danehill) as well as Manhattan Rain (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) and G1SW Platinum Scissors (Aus) (Danehill).
