Last year's G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Rivet (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) will bypass Friday's 32Red Burradon Conditions S. at Newcastle on Friday in favour of the G3 Craven S. at Newmarket on Apr. 20.
A fifth-place finish in the G1 Dubai Dewhurst S. at Newmarket had preceded Rivet's Racing Post Trophy win, and trainer William Haggas said he wanted to test the colt over that track again prior to the May 7 G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas.
“I was very tempted [to run him at Newcastle] but I need to find something out about Newmarket,” said Haggas. “The jockey said he didn't like the track last year and I have a niggling doubt that wasn't the reason he didn't run to form, so I'd like to find out before the Guineas.”
