'Reign' in Good Nick for Everest

She Will Reign | Bronwen Healy

The 2017 G1 Golden Slipper heroine She Will Reign (Aus) (Manhattan Rain {Aus}) is in fine fettle following an upbeat trackwork session on Saturday. A winner of the G1 Moir S. last out when resuming on Sept. 29, the Gary Portelli charge is currently the $5 favourite for the A$10-million G1 The Everest at Randwick on Oct. 14. Her Everest jockey was in doubt after regular rider Ben Melham was unable to make the weight and Kerrin McEvoy honoured an agreement to ride fellow Everest contender Redzel (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}), but Corey Brown has taken up the baton, and is pleased with how the filly is training so far.

“He [Brown] came back with a big smile on his face and said 'I can't wait to gallop her on Tuesday' and added he can't wait for next Saturday [The Everest], which was good to hear,” Portelli told Racenet.com. “He was excited. He just said if she feels that good going slow then he can't wait to go fast. You watch her work and she is doing it that easy and then you look at the clock and go, really? She is pretty special, we know that, but she still surprises us.”
