Record Top Lot At Inglis Day Two

The Sale Topper Lot 193 | Inglis

Day 2 of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale saw the brisk trade seen on the opening session continue apace. After two days of business the sale is on track to deliver significant growth with the clearance rate, average, median and top prices all surpassing previous levels. 43 lots have been sold for A$100,000 or more over the two days, well exceeding the 27 for last year's entire sale. The depth of buying has driven the average price to A$58,820, a massive jump of 33% on last year. The median price has jumped a staggering 37% to a remarkable A$48,000 with the aggregate totaling A$15,881,500 at the end the two sessions. On Sunday a new Classic Sale record top price was set of A$410,000, when lot 193, a colt by I Am Invincible (Aus) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) was knocked down to Lance O'Sullivan's Wexford Stables. The Yarraman Park offered colt is out of Quirina (GB) (Red Ransom) and will stay in Australia initially to be trained by Mike Moroney at Flemington. The underbidder for the top lot was Yulong Investments of China, who have already purchased four others by I Am Invincible at the sale. Chinese Investors made a significant contribution to the sale and it was the increasingly active China Horse Club that secured the second highest yearling on offer. Lot 340 a colt by Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie), offered by Marquee Stud was secured by the CHC team for A$280,000.

The sale's leading buyer so far is trainer Kurt Goldman, who added four lots to his team on Sunday, including Lot 153 a colt by Per Incanto (Street Cry {Ire}) which he secured for A$185,000 from the draft of Sledmere Stud. “You've only to go through the records to see the good horses that come out of the Classic Sale. It's all about the type and the Per Incanto colt ticked all those boxes,” said Goldman. A son of Choisir (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), lot 126 was also popular and it took a bid of A$170,000 from Jamie Walter's Proven Thoroughbreds to secure the colt. Walter purchased the Crowningstone offered yearling in conjunction with Joe Pride Racing and he commented, “He's a beautiful colt. He has a lot of style, and is the second foal of a Fastnet Rock mare with winners all down the page. I couldn't go past the presence of Criterion (NZ) (Sebring {Aus}), he's as tough a horse as I've ever seen, so being part of the same family was a bit of a buzz.” Grant Morgan who purchased Brazen Beau (Aus) from the first crop of I Am Invincible four years ago is looking to lot 117, a colt by Excelebration (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) to repeat the success. “Excelebration is a sire I'm quite keen on. There are similarities to I Am Invincible at the same stage a few years ago,” said Morgan who paid A$130,000 for Sunday's Widden Stud consigned yearling.

The general feeling from vendors at the sale is one of positivity with the majority enjoying high clearance rates with their drafts. One such vendor was Alison Hush of Davali Thoroughbreds who celebrated a 100% clearance rate and A$77,500 average from five yearlings offered. “We definitely didn't do too much sitting down this week which is exactly how we want it, it's what we come here for. We've also noticed quite a few new faces this week,” said Hush. Another delighted vendor was Carramar Park with Wayne Alchin commenting, “We sold all seven we offered today, they all made well above reserve. It's our 33rd year of continuous selling at the Sydney Classic Sale, we are thrilled.” Selling resumes on Monday when 209 lots will be offered from 10am.
