Rajsaman's Brametot a Fontainebleau First For Rouget

By

Brametot (Ire) (Rajsaman {Fr}), who followed up a June 17 debut score going six panels at Deauville with a 7 1/2-furlong conditions win back there Aug. 2, lost his unbeaten tag when second in the Aug. 20 Listed Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage in his third start on the Normandy coast and provided his sire (by Linamix {Fr}) with a first stakes success when annexing the Oct. 11 Listed Grand Criterium de Bordeaux last time. Detached in rear from the outset of Sunday's G3 Prix de Fontainebleau at Chantilly, the 41-10 chance made headway into contention in the straight and was ridden out once throwing down his challenge at the quarter-mile marker to register an ultimately impressive 2 1/2-length win from Stunning Spirit (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who denied Spotify (Fr) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) by a head for second. The win came as welcome relief for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget, whose Pau base had been afflicted by an unwelcome virus which saw two of his string euthanized, but he was in upbeat mood after claiming a first renewal of this contest. “After what we have been through these past few weeks, it shows how you can be down one day and up the next. At least the horses that were not in the barn with the sick ones have been running well throughout the week and that is encouraging. I know he was a little far back in the race, but that is the only way to ride him as he'd otherwise be too keen. Cristian [Demuro] rode him perfectly, he made his progress in stages and let him roll at the end. He showed a lot of class as a 2-year-old last year and I think he'll appreciate the straight mile of Deauville in the [May 13 G1 Poule d'Essai des] Poulains. It'll be a good race with good horses, but he has more experience than most and that will help. We shall hold him up again and hope he finishes well. Where he will finish is another question.”
