Purse Boosts For Qatar Features

The two feature races of the Emir's Sword Festival in Doha, Qatar Feb. 26 to 28 will each be worth $1 million. The races are the 12-furlong G1 HH The Emir's Trophy and the G1 HH The Emir's Sword, and both will be run Feb. 28.

The festival will also introduce a new Thoroughbred turf program. The $200,000 Qatar International Thoroughbred Cup for 3-year-olds and up over a mile will be run Feb. 27, and the $250,000 Katara Sprint Cup over six furlongs for 3-year-olds and up and the $250,000 Laffan Mile Shalfa Cup over a mile will be contested Feb. 28.

“HH The EMIR'S Sword is the most prestigious race of the season and we are very much looking forward to a great three days of international racing as we are hoping to attract some more international runners and distinguished guests, said Nasser Al Kaabi, General Manager of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club. “We saw at the Qatar Derby International Festival in Perkunas, Rogue Runner and Tannaaf that European horses can have success on Qatar soil.”
