Possible Surface Switch For Egyptian Storm

Egyptian Storm | Patty Wolfe

Justify (Scat Daddy)'s year-younger half-sister Egyptian Storm (Pioneerof the Nile) made her career bow Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs with a disappointing fifth on the turf, but connections are still hopeful for her future on the track.

“We thought she would run better,” admitted part-owner Terry Finley. “Sometimes you scratch your head a little bit and turn the page. Mr. Evans, Christophe [Clement] and I will sit down and we will see. She certainly has shown more in the mornings than she showed [Wednesday] at Tampa. We know she can run a little bit.”

Given she is a half-sibling to an undefeated Triple Crown winner, as well as The Lieutenant (Street Sense), who is a Grade III winner on dirt, a switch to the main track could be in the cards for Egyptian Storm.

“She trains at Payson on the dirt and moves very, very well on the turf,” Finley said. “We thought we'd try turf just to get her started. We certainly have dirt in our outlook for her. She has changed in the last four months. She has really grown into a big, beautiful filly. We know from a pedigree standpoint she has been successful, now she has to show it on the racetrack.”
