OBS Winter Sale Concludes

A yearling by Yes It's True brought top price of $28,000 during Thursday's open session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Winter Mixed Sale, while figures were significantly down from a year ago. Consigned by Select Sales, hip 490 is out of Datttcatsgotrhythm (Tale of the Cat), a half-sister to graded stakes placed Tenfold (Tiznow). Zachary Kilgus made the winning bid on the yearling, who was bred by Machmer Hall and Saratoga Glen Farm, which purchased Datttcatsgotrhythm for $11,000 at the 2010 Keeneland November sale.

A total of 177 horses sold during the open session for a gross of $677,700. The average fell 47.1% to $3,829 and the median was down 50% to $2,000. The buy-back rate for the session was 38.9%.

At last year's open session, 163 head grossed $1,179,300 for an average of $7,235 and a median of $4,000.

The two-day auction was topped by a yearling filly by Shanghai Bobby, who sold for $110,000 to Bill Heiligbrodt's East Hickman Bloodstock. For the sale, 326 horses sold for $2,970,700. The cumulative average fell 28.4% to $9,113 and the median was down 25% to $4,500.

Next up on the OBS sales calendar is the March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, which will be held Mar. 14 and 15. The sale's under-tack show will be held Mar. 9-11.
