Reddam Racing's GI Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist (Uncle Mo) developed a fever of 102 Monday morning and stayed at Pimlico Race Course instead of shipping to Belmont Park as originally planned, Doug O'Neill Racing confirmed via email Monday.

“He was treated for the fever, and Doug has been in contact with the team in Maryland,” said Sharla Sanders, Operations Manager for Doug O'Neill Racing. “His temperature is back to normal.”

Future plans for the bay will be determined by the results of the blood work performed earlier Monday. If Nyquist recovers in good order, a potential rematch with Preakness S. hero Exaggerator (Curlin) in the June 11 GI Belmont S. is a possibility.

“We are awaiting the results of the blood work and if he has a bug of some type it will be treated, and then we will go from there,” continued Sanders. “Right now, decisions are dependent upon the blood work report, which we should have tomorrow [Tuesday].”

The 2015 juvenile champion male was undefeated in eight starts prior to a third-place run in Saturday's GI Xpressbet.com Preakness S. and had claimed five top-level contests, including the GI Del Mar Futurity, GI FrontRunner S., GI Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the GI Xpressbet.com Florida Derby in addition to the “Run for the Roses.”
