For the second straight year, the Zayats scored another victory beneath the Twin Spires on the First Saturday in May courtesy of first timerJazzy Times. The subject of a lot of pre-race hype leading up to this debut after working a six-panel bullet in 1:11 Apr. 14 in company with undefeated “TDN Rising Star” Justin Squared (Zensational), the sophomore made good on that promise, and 3-2 favoritism, with a victory worthy of his own “TDN Rising Star” moniker. Off a touch slow, the dark bay hounded Sicarius (Hard Spun) through sharp early splits of :22.02 and :44.79. Disposing of that rival at the top of the stretch, he was soon joined by Grand Candy (Twirling Candy), but easily shrugged off that rival in the final furlong to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Stablemate Jimbo Fallon (Midnight Lute) got up for third and Sicarius hung for fourth. Picked up by Win Some Racing for $45,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, Jazzy Times summoned $460,000 from the Zayats Stables at last year's OBS March sale after breezing a quarter-mile in :20.3. His dam produced a filly by Majesticperfection last year and was bred back to that stallion. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $37,200.
