Natalma Rivals Can't 'Catch a Glimpse'

Catch a Glimpse | WEG/Michael Burns

Sent off right at her morning line quote, Catch a Glimpse was quickest into stride from her high draw, was surprisingly left alone on the front end despite a field on paper that looked loaded with speed and had plenty left in the tank in the final furlong to record a facile victory in the GII Natalma S. at Woodbine. The win guarantees Catch a Glimpse a spot in the starting gate for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf at Keeneland.

A $75,000 Keeneland September acquisition, the chestnut was allowed to take her place in an off-turf maiden in the Saratoga slop July 30 and was not embarrassed in a fifth-place effort. She was over her conditions when pitched in against allowance foes traveling seven furlongs over this course Aug. 22 and led past every pole to return a heathy 8-1 to her backers on that occasion.

With hot riding Florent Geroux in for the mount, Catch a Glimpse had things very much her own way on the front end and set an even pace first from Caren and then from well-backed Saratoga maiden winner Silky Girl (Scat Daddy) through a half in a moderate :48.. Still traveling comfortably at the head of the 2 1/2-furlong stretch, Catch a Glimpse shaken up to go further into the lead entering the final eighth of a mile and remained well clear. 'TDN Rising Star' Gambler's Ghost rallied from near the back of the pack for second, outfinishing the previously unbeaten Caren. It was the fifth victory in the last 10 runnings of the Natalma for trainer Mark Casse.

The winner's dam was victorious in the 1998 Appalachian S. at Keeneland and is the dam of Old Forester (Forestry), whose high water mark was a victory in the GIII Cliff Hanger S. at the Meadowlands and who has become a perennial leading sire in Canada. This is also the extended female family of treble Grade I winner High Yield (Storm Cat). Halo River was bred in the current season to Can the Man (Into Mischief).
