MS HEADLEY (f, 2, The Big Beast–My Coastie, by Trippi) was sent off the even-money favorite and duly delivered a two-length victory in her debut for 2-year-old maestro Wesley Ward at Churchill Downs Wednesday. The bay filly is the first winner for freshman sire and 2014 GI King's Bishop S. winner The Big Beast (Yes It's True). Ms Headley broke alertly and tracked pacesetting Biddy Duke (Bayern) through fractions of :22.20 and :45.79. She overtook the pacesetter in the final furlong and cruised clear.
Ms Headley is the fifth first-crop juvenile winner for Ward this spring. He saddled 'TDN Rising Stars' Anna's Fast (Fast Anna) and Nayibeth (Carpe Diem), as well as Maven (American Pharoah) and Letsstaypositive (Palace Malice).
Ms Headley, a $20,000 OBSOCT yearling, sold for $20,000 after working a quarter-mile in :20 4/5 at this year's OBS March sale. My Coastie produced a full-brother to the winner last year and was bred back to Jess's Dream. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $43,568.
