Grade I-winning millionaire Mr Speaker (Pulpit–Salute, by Unbridled) has been retired to Lane's End Farm, where he will stand the 2016 breeding season for $10,000 as property of a syndicate. Trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey on behalf of breeder Phipps Stable, the dark bay annexed the 2013 GIII Dania Beach S. late in his juvenile season before adding the GIII Lexington S. the following April. He scored a career high in last July's inaugural running of the GI Belmont Derby, defeating subsequent GI Secretariat S. winner and eventual G1 Cox Plate hero Adelaide (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the process. Mr Speaker added a win in the GII Commonwealth Cup to his resume this September, and retires with earnings of $1,240,044 from an overall record of 17-6-1-2.

“I've been very lucky to train for Mr. Phipps for a long time, through that time I've trained most of this family,” said McGaughey. “Mr Speaker has the same kind of class, quality and ability as the rest of that family. It's remarkable how many good horses have developed from Personal Ensign.”

Mr Speaker is out of a MGSP daughter of Hall of Famer and Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign (Private Account), who also produced MGISW My Flag (Easy Goer) and Grade I winners Miner's Mark (Mr. Prospector) and Traditionally (Mr. Prospector). My Flag in turn produced champion 2-year-old filly Storm Flag Flying (Storm Cat).

“We're very fortunate to add a prospect like Mr Speaker to our roster,” said Lane's End's Will Farish. “He, like our other new stallions this year is an outstanding individual.”
