Mr Singh Targeting St Leger

Lady Bamford's Mr Singh (GB) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who validated 11-10 favoritism with a front-running, 2 1/2-length in the G3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket July 9, will be trained up to a start in the G1 Ladbrokes St Leger, it was announced Friday.

“Lady Bamford has had some nice staying 3-year-olds recently, and I feel Mr Singh has more improvement left in him than them at this stage,” commented Hugo Lascelles, racing manager to Lady Bamford. “We liked the performance at Newmarket. He looked well, quickened well and pretty much dominated the race from start to finish. He has come out of it well and will go straight to the Ladbrokes St Leger now. He will be stepping up in trip but that won't be a problem.” The St Leger, the last of the five British Classics, is contested over an extended mile and three-quarters Saturday, Sept. 12.

A maiden winner at Newbury Apr. 18, the homebred son of Sundari (Ire) (Danehill), trained by John Gosden, was fifth behind Leger ante-post favorite Storm the Stars (Sea the Stars {Ire}) in the Listed Cocked Hat S. at Goodwood May 22, but bounced back with a runner-up effort to Balios (Ire) (Shamardal) in the G2 King Edward VII S. at Royal Ascot June 19.
