Midnight Storm (Pioneerof the Nile) may have earned himself a start in the Jan. 28 GI Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park with his romping victory in Sunday's GII San Pasqual S., but connections will wait a few days before announcing any firm decision.
“So far, so good,” trainer Phil D'Amato said Monday. “We took him out this morning and gave him a little jog and he's no worse for wear.”
As for a start in the $12-million Pegasus, D'Amato said, “We'll see. We'll probably know more in the next couple days. We're just going to get a better line on him and how much this last race took out of him and go from there.”
A Grade I winner on turf, Midnight Storm has now won back-to-back graded races on the main track. In addition to his win in the San Pasqual, he was also an open-lengths winner of the Nov. 27 GIII Native Diver S.
