Limato Gearing Up For Mile Test

Newbury's G1 Lockinge S. is certainly shaping up into a high class edition even at this early stage and another top performer with their sights set on the May 14 contest is Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}). Henry Candy's 4-year-old was one of the leading sprinters of his generation last year running second to Muhaarar (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) in the G1 Commonwealth Cup before landing the G2 Saint Goban Weber Park S. at Doncaster on his first try over seven furlongs. He confirmed his ability to get a longer trip when rounding out the season with a fine second to Make Believe (GB) (Makfi {GB}) in the G1 Qatar Prix de la Foret on at Longchamp. Whether Limato gets another furlong Candy can't be sure but he feels it is well worth trying. “I think we're probably going to go straight for the Lockinge. He's very well at the moment and seems to have developed at last. We've been keen to try a mile with him at some stage and we might as well find out sooner rather than later,” said the trainer. Like a lot of Henry Candy horses Limato was a relatively inexpensive yearling purchase at £41,000 but he has belied his price-tag and has won six of his nine starts and banked almost ten times his purchase price in prize-money.
