Kachy had beaten the re-opposing Muhadathat (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) on debut in a conditions event over five furlongs at Chester on his sole start June 27 and re-emerged to confirm his star status in a renewal robbed of some interest by the scratching of the Listed Windsor Castle S. winner Washington DC (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}). Slowly away, the bay was angled towards the stand's rail by Richard Kingscote and he was traveling notably strongly just off the pace approaching the quarter pole with the favorite King of Rooks coming into play wide out on the track. Helped by the rightward drift off the fence of his target horse Rouleau soon after, he was marginally in front approaching the furlong pole and stayed on professionally as King of Rooks tried hard to close the gap on the run to the line. “He just turned his head in the gate but quickly got into stride and when the gaps opened up a little sooner than ideal, he pulled out all the stops,” his rider explained. “Chester brings them on and helps them a lot and on the way to start I was thinking he was so relaxed that five furlongs might find him out, but he's got a good bit of traveling pace. He's a big, strong-looking horse who hopefully can progress.” Trainer Tom Dascombe was not making any big plans afterwards. “We thought he'd win, as he's pretty good but when he jumped out he gave them a chance,” he said. “It wasn't the plan to race like that, but Richard's given him a lovely ride and he's got there. We'll go home and see how he comes out of it before seeing where he goes and he's going to improve with age and time, as Mr Candy always says about Kyllachy's. I don't think he's really a five-furlong horse.” Richard Hannon said of the runner-up, “He's run a great race, but the speed was all on the other side. It turned out being drawn where he was was a huge disadvantage. He's in the G1 Prix Morny [at Deauville Aug. 23] and the G2 Gimcrack S. [ay York Aug. 22] and will take his chance in one of those.”
