Kodiac's Sporting Chance Prevails in the Eclipse

Sporting Chance (GB) (Kodiac {GB}), who was off the board behind G1 Phoenix S. hero Advertise (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) in Newmarket's July 12 G2 July S. and Land Force (Ire) (No Nay Never) in Goodwood's Aug. 2 G2 Richmond S. last time, stepped forward to garner Monday's G3 Prix Eclipse at Maisons-Laffitte. The bay, who won his May 29 debut at Wolverhampton before running second at Kempton June 27, broke well and raced on the front end from the outset this sixth straight attempt at six panels. Coming under pressure to claim a slender advantage just inside the quarter-mile marker, he kept on resolutely for continued urging in the closing stages and beyond the line to register a career high in game fashion. At the line, the 9-1 chance was 1 1/4 lengths ahead of fellow British raider Space Traveller (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}), with Graignes (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) a half length back in third.
Sporting Chance, half to a yearling colt by Champs Elysees (GB), is the first of two foals produced by a winning daughter of Swan Nebula (Seeking the Gold), herself kin to three stakes performers headed by G1 Queen Elizabeth II S.-winning sire Poet's Voice (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). The bay shares this third dam Bright Tiara (Chief's Crown), herself a full-sister to GISW sire Chief Honcho, with G1 Queen Elizabeth Cup heroine Mozu Katchan (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}) and MG1SP G3 Fuji S. victor Staphanos (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}).
