Jack Hobbs Retired To Overbury

Godolphin's dual Group 1 winner Jack Hobbs (GB) (Halling–Swain's Gold, by Swain {Ire}) has been retired and will stand at Overbury Stud for 4,000. Simon Sweeting, manager of Overbury Stud, said, “I am overjoyed that Jack Hobbs is coming to Overbury. He's a magnificent stamp with an outcross pedigree, and he's the best racehorse to retire straight to the National Hunt ranks in Britain since Sheikh Mohammed sent us Kayf Tara back in 2001.”

Trained by John Gosden, Jack Hobbs finished second behind stablemate Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) in the 2015 G1 Epsom Derby before winning the G1 Irish Derby by five lengths. He finished third in that year's G1 Champion S. and had an abbreviated campaign last year due to injury but managed to fill the same spot in the Champion. He returned in March to take the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic.

Gosden said, “Jack Hobbs is a very attractive, rangy colt with a great stride, high cruising speed and a fine turn of foot. A classy individual with a superb combination of speed and stamina.”
