Carmichael Jennings's Ivawood (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}), third in this year's G1 2000 Guineas and G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, pleased trainer Richard Hannon in a work Friday and is on track for the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville Aug. 9.
“He did a super piece of work–he worked as though the old Ivawood was back,” Hannon noted.
A dual Group 2 winner last year, Ivawood has yet to score in four outings this year but was third in the G3 Greenham S. in addition to his Classic placings. His most recent effort was a disappointing 14th of 16 in Royal Ascot's G3 Jersey S. June 17.
“For whatever reason, he didn't run his race in the Jersey, but he had two hard races in the Classics,” Hannon said. “He's got so much speed, which is why we felt we'd chance it dropping him down in trip [to 6 1/2 furlongs for the Maurice de Gheest].”
