Half Sovereign Strikes for Miesque Triumph at Chantilly

Karl Burke trainee Half Sovereign (Ten Sovereigns) had bagged four of six prior starts and was rewarded for earlier groundwork with a first black-type success in Monday's G3 Prix Miesque at Chantilly.

“She was very good as we weren't convinced she wants really soft ground, although she's got a bit of form with give in it,” said Burke. “I don't know what the strength of the race was, but she did it nicely. We couldn't believe at the time we got her for that [12,000gns] price, to be honest. We were very happy when we got her and knew she was cheap, but having said that you couldn't forecast what she was going to do. We'll certainly try to get some [more] black type next year for her. She is a big filly, so she should go on from two to three.”

The 7-10 favourite was sent forward to stalk the pace in second after racing fourth through the initial strides. Looming large on the bridle once into the home straight, she came under pressure to gain a slender advantage entering the final furlong and was ridden out to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths from Listed Marwell Stakes third Magny Cours (Awtaad).

Pedigree Notes
Half Sovereign is the first of two foals and lone scorer produced by a winning half to G3 Firth Of Clyde Stakes second Rosebride (Mayson) and the multiple stakes-placed duo Party Doctor (Dr Fong) and Dream Wedding (Medicean). Rosebride, in turn, is the dam of Listed Dragon Stakes runner-up Significantly (Garswood). The January-foaled bay's second dam Wedding Party (Groom Dancer) is a half-sister to G2 May Hill Stakes victrix Pollenator (Motivator), herself the dam of Group 3-winning G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup runner-up Stellaria (Kizuna). Half Sovereign is kin to a yearling colt by Victor Ludorum.
