Given the hurry-up by Junior Alvarado with a bit less than three furlongs to race, Thunderously gained ominous ground, swooped in front with just under an eighth of a mile to the short-stretch wire and streaked clear to take it by five lengths.
“He [Thunderously] won easier than the other one [Chief Wallabee],” trainer Bill Mott said. “Whether he was going to get there the first time you run him or not, at the end of the day, I thought this was a two-turn horse. He trained like a two-turn horse.”
Hailing from the deeper female family of champion and GI Kentucky Derby hero Unbridled, Thunderously is kin to the 2-year-old colt Henriques (Not This Time) and a yearling Nyquist filly.
