Gun Pit The Latest Korea Defector

With the Korean raid of sprint star Rich Tapestry (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) now in doubt, the challenge from Hong Kong was dealt a further blow on Wednesday when Gun Pit (Aus) (Dubawi {Ire}) was ruled out of the KOR G1 Korea Cup.

According to trainer Caspar Fownes, the 6-year-old returned a dirty scope after a barrier trial at Sha Tin and is now being aimed at the Breeders' Cup meeting.

“We'll just concentrate on America now for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile,” said Fownes.  “That gives me more time and I'll be able to have him cherry ripe for that. He looked good in his trial today, so he's come on from a week ago and he will strip fitter for it but I just think to go 1800 metres on a tough dirt track like that, I think he's not quite there for the race in Korea.”

Hong Kong could still be represented by Super Jockey (NZ) (Sandtrap) in the Korea Sprint, a race which could also be contested by Rich Tapestry if he recovers suitably from soreness detected in a joint after a sub-standard barrier trial on Tuesday.

The inaugural Korean international raceday takes place at Seoul racecourse on Sunday, Sept. 11.
