Galileo's Capri Back With a Win in the Alleged

Last year's G1 Irish Derby and G1 St Leger hero had a five-pound penalty to deal with in a potentially trappy affair in Friday's G3 Toals.com Bookmakers Alleged S. at Naas, but it was mission accomplished on his comeback despite an unexpected late scare from Cannonball. Sluggish from the stalls, the grey was soon in front as Ryan Moore sought to avoid a tactical race and appeared to be in command a furlong out. Sticking to his guns as the errant Cannonball ate into his advantage in the run to the line, it only just came in time but Aidan O'Brien is expecting major improvement from the winner.
That seems a given, as he had started his ultimately fruitful 3-year-old campaign in the same workmanlike manner when fourth in the G3 Ballysax S. “We're delighted and it was nice to get him started,” he explained. “We'll have a look at going to the [G3] Mooresbridge next and he'll come on lovely. Then we might have a look at either the [G1] Tattersalls [Gold Cup at The Curragh] or the [G1] Coronation [Cup at Epsom]. Maybe he can do the two. He's a lovely relaxed horse, lazy and a brave horse. Ryan was delighted with him. We'll let him come slowly, rather than forcing him. We'll feel our way. That's the first time he's won over 10 furlongs and we'll be thinking a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half with him. There should be tons of improvement. I'd say he got tired, but he was entitled to and it's nice for him to be doing that rather than racing up there with his mouth open, as we've another eight months to go.”
Capri, whose 3-year-old maiden full-brother Cypress Creek (Ire) is entered at Tipperary next week, is a grandson of the G2 Prix de Malleret and G3 Prix de la Nonette winner and G1 Prix Vermeille runner-up Diamilina (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}). She is herself a daughter of the Malleret runner-up Diamonaka (Akarad {Fr}), a half-sister to the G2 Prix Greffulhe winner Diamond Mix (Ire) (Linamix {Fr}) who produced the GSW and MG1SP sire Diamond Green (Fr) (Green Desert). This is also the family of the G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer (Ire) (Halling), the G3 Prix Penelope scorer Diamond Dance (Dancehall), her G2 Prix de Pomone-winning daughter Diamond Tango (Fr) (Acatenango {Ger}) and her G2 Doncaster Cup-winning son Desert Skyline (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}). Aside from Cypress Creek, the dam Dialafara (Fr) (Anabaa) also has 2-year-old and yearling full-sisters to Capri to come.
